This is a community challenge dedicated to the celebration of poetry and fiction.

The concept:

Each year, there will be a featured poet, and on January 1st, participants will be given a stanza or poetry fragment from the work of the featured poet as a prompt.

Participants will have 31 days to write at least 1,000 words.

Rules:

There really aren't many of them, so this should be easy.

This challenge is open to both original fiction and fan fiction. Everything is welcome: femslash, gen, het, slash, RPF. Any and every fandom, genre, rating, kink, trope, etc. As such, please show care and consideration in your writing for the following (taken pretty much verbatim from [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth):

• Ensure that your work doesn't perpetuate oppressive, discriminatory tropes and attitudes.

• Don't exploit other people's tragedies or cultures in your work.

• Please research before writing about places and peoples with which you're only vaguely familiar.

Posting:
  • Once you're finished with your story, you can post it wherever you'd like, as long as it's linked back to the community. Just remember to use a cut tag when you post to the community.

  • When you get ready to post the story or link to the community, please use the content header html:

  • Here's the html for the content notice. Please warn for noncon, dubcon, incest, and character death, as well as anything else that you think might be potentially triggering. Alternately, you have the option to say 'I choose not to warn' on your header if that's your cup of tea. It's up to you. Highlight to read text was created by [personal profile] amadi.

Where 'titleofstory' would, of course, be the title of your story.

After all, it doesn't hurt to be courteous, right?

  • All fics have to be at least 1,000 words, although more is welcome.

  • Most importantly, relax! Have fun! This is an opportunity to learn some great poetry and make some great fic!

Timeframe and deadlines:
  • Featured poet will be announced October 1, 2016. Sign ups begin.

  • Sign ups close December 31st, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. CST.

  • Stanzas and poetry fragments will be given out on January 1, 2017.

  • The writing period is from January 1, 2017 to January 31, 2017.

  • Posting begins February 1, 2017 through February 7, 2017.

  • Amnesty will begin on February 10, 2017. You have until September 30, 2017 to post your story, as on October 1, 2017 the featured poet will change.

  • There is permanent amnesty for all challenges.

Finally, if anyone has any questions that are not answered here, feel free to ask questions in this post. Or you can send a PM.
